Press Release - Positive Action Group

PAG TO HOLD SPEAKER’S CORNER AT TYNWALD FAIR

Wednesday 5th July

After the Tynwald Ceremony is over and for something a little different on our National Day why not head over towards the Millennium Stone on the Fair field and visit the stand of the Positive Action Group.

Information on the activities of the group will be available and members will be on hand to answer any questions about its aims and objectives.

PAG came into being over the past few months and is a political lobby group whose goal is to have a positive influence on the November election by bringing all the issues out in to the open which have been of concern to residents. Our further aim is to encourage prospective candidates, new and old, to ‘nail their colours to the mast’ and come out in favour of the PAG Charter which calls for amongst other things ‘Open Accountable Government’, Rigorous Control of Public Finances’ and a ‘Fairer Society for All’.

PAG Chairman Roger Tomlinson says, “We extend an open invitation to all Sitting Members of the House of Keys and those candidates who have declared their intention to stand for election to the House in November, to get on our soapbox and speak from the heart. Let the people of the Isle of Man, on this very special National day judge for themselves who will stand up and be counted”.

He goes on to say, “ But the soapbox is not just for politicians, anyone who has something to say about the Isle of Man and its future, as long as it is decent, honest and legal, can get up and have a few minutes to tell the gathered throng”.

Speaker’s Corner sessions will be held at 1 p.m., 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. and will last for as long as people have something to say and there are those who want to listen!

PAG holds regular public events with prominent speaker’s and are keen to promote politics as lively, interesting and relevant.

Finally, Roger Tomlinson says although PAG is a serious political lobby group, he sees the event next Wednesday as a light-hearted and fun way to become involved in politics before the campaigning begins in earnest to elect the next parliament.
