Publication Date: Tue, 25 Mar 2008

Mrs Wendy Megson has accepted an invitation to join the Liberal Vannin Party and declared that she will stand as a Liberal Vannin candidate in Onchan for the forthcoming local elections.

Wendy has served as a Board member and Commissioner in Onchan during the last four year term being a member of the Housing Committee from 2004 until 2007, the Rural Committee from 2004 until 2006, a member of the Leisure and Amenities Committee in 2005, Vice Chairman in 2006, Chairman of the Leisure and Amenities Committee in 2007, and also appointed to the Policy and Finance Committee in 2007.

Since 2005 she has also committed to work as Onchan District Commissioner's representative on the Isle of Man Municipal Association, in the first instance as a member on the Isle of Man Police Constabulary ASBO Strategic Group and appointed as Chairman of the Association in 2007.

Wendy says, "Having experienced a somewhat re-active regime within the Onchan District Commissioners in the past, I would like to focus more on a pro-active strategy for the District including prudent fiscal planning and long term schemes for maintenance and improvement works. I support the need for increased public sector housing in the area and embrace the philosophy of the Liberal Vannin Party that by bringing local authority representatives together you can work towards a fair and open democracy. I believe in challenging ineffective policies and will continue to make savings and changes where possible that will sustain and enhance the facilities already enjoyed by residents.

My goal is to serve my constituents as a Liberal Vannin candidate without fear or favour to the best of my ability and to aim for a quality of life our children and their children will be proud of".
