Candidate ProfileTony Wright - Rushen
Political History & Views What is your political history or relevant experience? I am a commissioner in Port Erin. I am on the executive committee for NASUWT(IOM) and was the President in 2003. I have chaired various committees in the UK before coming to the Island Are you a member of any organisation which guides or influences your political views or polices? I am a member of the Liberal Vannin Party and I have links with the Positive Action Group. What are your main national issues? The mismanagement of national resources; the rising costs of energy and its availability to the more vulnerable sectors of our society; the lack of affordable housing; the increasing costs of Government; lack of accountability and transparency in Government. What are your main local issues? The development of the Clucas Estate (Ballakilley)into land for public/leisure use;provision of a comprehensive medical facility at the old Southlands; more low cost housing in both private and public ownership; more effective policing; regeneration of Port Erin and Port St Mary village centres What do you believe you would bring to government as an MHK? Empathy with all sections of the population; understanding of the economic and social problems that face the elderly, sick, poor and low wage workers; an understanding of the disaffection of youth and how to address it; the ability to see both sides of an argument/issue; honesty and integrity ( I will not be seeking a ministerial post);a love of the Isle of Man and the desire to do what's best for it.
