News & Press ReleasesSenior politician resigns to contest Keys
Leonard Singer has resigned from the Legislative Council. Jessica Mackie has the details....... Leonard Singer declared his intention to stand for election to the House of Keys in August. He was encouraged to do so by local people angry at the failure of the DHSS to reinstate 24 hour cover at Ramsey Cottage Hospital, despite Tynwald approving such a move. At a series of meetings in July, members of the public urged the hospital's League of Friends to do what it could to influence the Government to restore round the clock emergency cover. Initially Mr Singer appeared happy to remain as an MLC while campaigning to be elected as one of 2 MHK's for the town,a stance criticised by many through the letters page of the local press. However he now says he has tendered his resignation to demonstrate his commitment is to the people of Ramsey rather than his own personal interest. Sitting members Anne Craine and Allan Bell will both defend their seats in November's election. Energy FM News News Feed
