News & Press ReleasesElection day
Polling stations around the Island are open until 8 o'clock this evening for the House of Keys General Election. By the end of today it will be known which politicians will represent the Manx public for the next five years. There'll be at least three new faces in the House of Keys when the new members are sworn in on Monday - Adrian Duggan, Dominic Delaney and Richard Corkill have all announced they're not seeking re-election. 54 candidates from 14 constituencies are hoping to take one of the 23 seats up for grabs. Ayre is the only one uncontested after Eddie Teare was re-elected unopposed. Issues such as immigration control, the openess and transparency of the government, the economy and housing all feature strongly in the manisfestos of many candidates. This year sees a greater involvement of party politics with 9 people standing under the banner of the Liberal Vannin party. The Manx Labour Party and the APG are also represented.
