Press Release - Philip Crellin

Philip Crellin is proud to announce he is to stand in the forthcoming General Election for the sheading of Rushen. “Many voters have approached me to ask if I would stand in this year’s election, and after much thought about the future of the Isle of Man I believe I have a contribution to make to the life of the island. I will offer the voters of Rushen responsibility and accountability for my actions, a commitment as a full-time MHK serving the people of Rushen as a national politician, and I will always be mature enough to say sorry.”

Over the coming months, Mr Crellin will be visiting many of the voters of Rushen personally with his manifesto, hoping to take the opportunity to talk about any issues and concerns that they may have about the future of our island. This will enable him to enter national government with a clear understanding of what the people of Rushen and the island both want and expect of him if he is elected.

Philip Crellin is married with two teenage children. He has many years of experience in local government, is a past chairman of Port Erin Commissioners, has served on sub-committees, and statutory boards. He has many years of business experience in tourism, and has been self-employed in the industry for over 20 years. Two years ago on reaching the age of 45 he had to retire as a senior helmsman of Port Erin Lifeboat, but continues to support the RNLI as a launching officer for Port Erin Lifeboat Station.

I will be standing as an independent candidate, with the intention of being able to scrutinize issues and policies presented by departments or the Council of Ministers. My independent status will enable me to speak out at all times, and allow me to vote for what I believe is right for the island and its people; I will not be pushed or forced into toeing the line.

Over the last five years nobody has seemed willing to take responsibility for the mistakes and mismanagement of government; I intend to always be open and honest about my voting so that both my constituency and the island can hold me to account for my actions. The day to day running of government apart, some of the issues that in my opinion need addressing, and which I intend to work towards as an MHK are: energy conservation, legislative council reform, affordable housing, healthcare, waste disposal, and education.
