Press Release - Liberal Vannin

Another Liberal Vannin Candidate Announcement

Liberal Vannin is delighted to announce that Nigel Malpass has been selected to stand for election in Ramsey. 60 year old Nigel Malpass runs his own International Marine Consultancy business based in Ramsey and has an impressive client list including many of the International law firms with offices around the world.

Nigel is married with two children and lives with his wife Gill, who also plays an active role in the family business, and their 6 year old daughter Emma who attends Auldyn Infant School. Nigel’s son Mark attained a Masters degree in “Animal production” and after working as a farm manager in New Zealand has now returned to Bangor to complete a Doctorate in agriculture. Nigel joins several other Liberal Vannin candidates across the island standing for election to the House of Keys on 23rd November.

Party Leader Peter Karran MHK said "I am delighted to welcome Nigel to the team to get some integrity and accountability back into the Manx Government which needs to openly demonstrate good corporate governance.  Nigel’s impressive career and good standing within the community will be invaluable in helping Liberal Vannin achieve our primary goal of instilling common sense, credibility, integrity and accountability back into the very heart of government.”

Nigel stated that it is the ultimate honour having lived in Ramsey for 20 years to seek election as an MHK. “I know that, if elected, the next five years will be exhilarating.  Reacting to the challenges of this ever changing world without losing the solid foundation that affords the Island an enviable degree of stability is crucial to our future prosperity.

I find the housing situation and job opportunities for our well qualified young people totally inadequate. Is it any wonder that after investing so much time and effort in their education our current system forces them to leave and seek employment elsewhere? What a waste of the Islands natural resource!

Drug abuse is an increasing problem and action is needed now if we are to make our streets safe to walk at night. The young need more accessible and challenging leisure pursuits freely given that will help them move into adulthood. Respect for our elderly and their chosen way of life should complement not counter the enthusiasm of youth. Living and working together in harmony will restore the pride in this a very special Island.

The Liberal Vannin Party has, within it a team that can achieve these goals, but not alone. We need everyone’s support to make the task not only easier but achievable within the life of the next parliament.

Compare today with 1986 and it is plain to see that the rejuvenation of not only Ramsey but the Island is critical to our future. Thankfully, with the policies the Liberal Vannin Party has, the Island has the greatest opportunity to achieve these aims.  The party’s economic, housing, immigration, and other social policies are radical, dynamic, coherent and achievable, and in my opinion just what this island – and in particular – Ramsey needs.

What impressed me the most is the party’s commitment to reform the current method of government and spread government functions, and hence wealth, around the island which will inevitably boost the local economies.  This is just what we need here in Ramsey and I passionately believe the Liberal Vannin Party Manifesto is good for Ramsey, good for the island, good for us and good for our children.  I hope the people of Ramsey will support me at the polls on 23rd November.”

Nigel has stated that, if elected as an MHK for Ramsey, he will proactively support the Liberal Vannin Party commitment to bring politics back to the people and will hold frequent and regular meetings accessible to all.  Nigel concluded by saying “It’s your Island, it’s your life so elect someone who can help create the society you trust and believe in”.

Nigel has an impressive maritime career and from time to time serves as an “expert witness” in court cases involving complex and detailed maritime affairs.  Nigel also author’s distance learning Diploma courses in maritime “manning and training” as well as “Crew management” for Lloyd’s Maritime Academy and The National Sea Training School.  He was also a contributing author of the highly acclaimed N.I. book “Bridge Watch Keeping”.

Additionally, Nigel has been approved by the FSC to act under the islands regulations not only as an Isle Of Man Director but as part of a ‘four eyes’ team under the Fiduciary Service Providers Act of the Isle of Man.

In addition to his extensive Marine experience Nigel supports the island’s Junior Achievement program (formerly Young Enterprise) and has for the last three years been actively involved in Ramsey Grammar School. He was delighted that last years winners were The Pipeline Company from RGS – who then went on to represent the island in the European finals in Switzerland.
