Local authority elections are taking place across the Island in April and residents are being encouraged to get involved with their communities.
The Department of Local Government and the Environment wants people to take an interest both as candidates and voters.
Many of the Island’s politicians have started their careers with local authorities including all of the Chief Ministers to date.
DOLGE Minister John Shimmin says members come from all walks of life and can make a real difference to the quality of life in their areas.
Council members and Commissioners are responsible for setting the rates in their districts and are involved with other issues like waste disposal, housing, planning and environmental health.
The elections for the 156 members take place on 24th April.
The deadline for nominations is 27th March.
