Press Realse - Douglas Town Councillor Jim Mitchell is to seek re-election as Councillor for Murray's Ward
Publication Date: Mon, 17 Mar 2008
Douglas Town Councillor Jim Mitchell is to seek re-election as Councillor for Murray's Ward, in the Local Authorities General Election, which is to be held at the end of April this year.
Returning to the Town Council in 2004, after a break of three and half years, his main pledge was that he would not vote for any Borough rate increases above inflation. He has kept this pledge and if re-elected he will do so again during the next four years.
His other priorities would be to continue to improve public street lighting in Douglas. Press the Department of Transport to improve further roads and pavements in the town and continue to improve the cleaner, safer, greener environment in which we live. Including the continuation of the monitoring the Richmond Hill incinerator.
The past four years have shown some exceptional developments and achievements by Douglas Corporation as a whole. For example winning a silver award two years running in the Britain in Bloom competition is a terrific achievement, but we must continue to press on with similar improvements without burdening the ratepayers with large rate increases in the future.
