Local Authority Elections - Nomination deadline looms

There are only a few days to go before the nomination deadline for the Local Authority Elections.
Candidates have to declare their intention to stand by this Thursday.
Elections for the 156 members take place a month from now.
The Department of Local Government and the Environment has been campaigning for people to take an interest both as candidates and voters.
DOLGE Minister John Shimmin says members come from all walks of life and can make a real difference to the quality of life in their areas.
Council members and Commissioners are responsible for setting the rates in their districts and are involved with other issues like waste disposal, housing, planning and environmental health.
