PAG Meeting - It's the economy stupid
"It's the Economy Stupid"
7.30 p.m. Monday 27th June 2011
Manx Legion Club, Market Hill, Douglas
Admission is free - All are welcome
Continuing its pre-Election Public Meetings, P A G returns to the Manx Legion Club, Douglas on Monday 27th June 2011 at 7.30 p.m.
Bill Clinton's famous phrase "It's the economy stupid" is appropriate for Election candidates to ponder during the next few months.
Accordingly P A G has invited Gregory Jones, Director of Taxation KPMG (Isle of Man and Gibraltar) to consider ways of raising revenue for our economy.
Interviewed shortly after the Manx Budget in February he said;
"In an Election year you probably wouldn't expect too many radical changes to the way in which public finances are shaped but I think it's likely in the next year or two or three that we're going to have to look long and hard at public finances and how they're modelled.
I personally think that we need to be looking and thinking out of the box in terms of things like privatisation programmes and alternative ways of raising revenue. I think that in years to come the Government's going to have to look very seriously at those options."
Mr Jones will expand on his ideas as well as considering our V A T position and possibly touching on the current CinemaNX controversy
A spokesperson for P A G comments:
"We believe that maintaining economic stability is a prime consideration in uncertain global conditions. We are delighted that Greg Jones will bring his international financial experience to consider such an important issue. He is frequently asked to address tax related seminars and offshore conferences. It should be a thought provoking evening''.
